Newsletter Marketing

Newsletter marketing is the regular sending of email content to subscribers who have consented to receiving it, in order to maintain relationships, share news and generate recurring traffic independently of social media or search algorithms.

In practice

A steady sending frequency that you can realistically sustain usually matters more for long-term subscriber loyalty than sending as often as possible. A newsletter is also a good way to put repurposed content from blog articles or podcasts in front of your audience a second time. In Austria the central legal framework is section 174 of the Telecommunications Act 2021: email marketing generally requires prior consent that can be withdrawn at any time, a narrowly defined exception applies to existing customers, and addresses listed in the RTR's ECG list must be excluded. Whether and how that exception applies in a given case should be checked legally – in practice the double opt-in procedure has become standard because it makes consent documentable.
