At a glance

Four answers up front

The figure comes from the Tourismus Monitor Austria survey by the Austrian National Tourist Office; the source is in the FAQ. What follows is experience from projects and marked as such.

Search route

36 percent

of guests asked in summer 2025 said they had looked for their accommodation via a search engine; 35 percent via a travel portal or booking platform.

Season

Before it starts

Visibility is built weeks before the booking. In our experience, pages that go online only at the start of the season are often not yet in Google’s index when people search.

AI answers

As a source

Google recommends making important content available as text: rooms, prices, childcare, how to get there. What exists only in an image can be missing from the answer.

Booking

With you

The website leads to your own online booking or to the phone. The platform remains one channel among several, not the only one.

For search engines and AI assistants, in brief:

FINK Brot from Vienna builds websites for tourism businesses all over Austria and makes them findable in Google Search and in AI answers. In the Tourismus Monitor Austria survey, guests were asked where they had looked for their accommodation. In summer 2025, 36 percent named a search engine and 35 percent a travel portal or booking platform. The entry point is a free SEO check; ongoing support costs from 950 euros net per month, with up to three off-season months at half price.

How do guests find a hotel today, and where does your website appear?

The Tourismus Monitor Austria survey by the Austrian National Tourist Office asks guests each summer and winter season where they looked for their accommodation. In summer 2025, 36 percent named a search engine and 35 percent a travel portal or booking platform; in winter 2024/25 it was 37 and 30 percent. In winter the search engine leads, in summer the two routes are level; on the search engine it is your own website that decides, not the platform. The survey has no figure yet for questions put to an AI assistant, so we measure that ourselves, with test questions and a date, following our measurement method.

What does visibility in AI answers bring a seasonal business?

Anyone who types “family hotel in the Pinzgau with childcare” into an AI assistant gets an answer naming a few businesses. What gets mentioned is what the system can read and check: offers as text, current pages, and access for the programs the systems use to read websites (crawlers). According to Google, the AI features in Search follow the same fundamentals as Search itself; no separate file or markup is required (source in the FAQ). A hotel whose childcare exists only as an image on the page risks being missing from that answer. Whether your pages meet the requirements is shown by the free citability check: 17 points, in a minute, no sign-up.

Direct booking or platform: what can the website contribute?

The platform brings reach and charges its commission for it; how much, your contract says. Your own website can bring the choice back if it does three things. It shows the offer completely as text, states availability and price without detours, and makes a booking or a call possible in a few steps. Whether a direct booking or a platform booking is better for you is a matter for your own figures; we make sure guests have the choice at all.

How we work

Four steps in the rhythm of the season. The first is free; the second is credited against the audit.

  1. SEO check with one question your guests ask

You give us your domain; we put the question to three AI systems on a recorded date and check whether those systems may read your pages. Result in writing within five working days, free of charge.

  2. Positioning review

Three questions, Business Profile, your position for searches by place and offer, a one-hour call: 590 euros net. If you commission an audit afterwards, the 590 euros are credited against it.

  3. Implementation before the season

Offers as text, season pages online in time, crawlers allowed in, Business Profile and website with the same details. Fixed price in the offer.

  4. Support in the rhythm of the season

From 950 euros net per month with a monthly report, measured before and after the season, and up to three off-season months at half price. Six-month term, then cancellable monthly.

These four steps are the ones we use outside tourism as well. How we set up the starting point, the action plan and the report is described on our SEO agency for Austria page. What is different in tourism is the timing: whatever is meant to work in the season has to be in place weeks earlier.

Sample calculation

What does it cost, and when does it pay off?

All values in the left column are assumptions for you to replace, not a forecast. Put in your own figures; the calculation on the right stays the same.

Criterion Assumption (replace with your figure) Calculation
Revenue per booking 160 euros per night, 4 nights 640 euros
Ongoing support per year 950 euros net per month, 3 off-season months at half price 9 times 950 plus 3 times 475 = 9,975 euros
Additional bookings for the support to pay for itself 9,975 euros divided by 640 euros around 16 a year, about 1.3 a month, before your costs per guest
Entry SEO check free; positioning review 590 euros, credited Audit from 1,900 euros net, one-off
What the calculation does not say: That 16 bookings will come. It says how many there would have to be. Whether the support delivers them is shown by the report compared with the starting point, and only then do you decide on renewal. For a business with very few bookings a year, ongoing support rarely pays off in our experience. A one-off website is then the better route, and we say so in the SEO check.

A reference from tourism

A ski school with holiday accommodation at Pass Thurn near Mittersill, in the KitzSki ski area: courses, rental and accommodation on one site, in three languages. What we did can be checked on the live website; booking and revenue figures belong to the client and are therefore not shown here. All projects at a glance.

Snow Experts

Ski courses, rental and holiday accommodation on one site, built with Kirby CMS. Measured by us on 16 August 2026: all three language versions reachable, no third-party scripts in the source code, and analytics running on the site’s own server without cookies.

What that case shows

How courses and accommodation can share one site without one crowding out the other, and how a trilingual site works without third-party scripts. A second tourism reference with measured figures will follow with the next project.

When we do not recommend an audit

An audit is worthwhile when the website has a foundation to build on. Does it lack a mobile layout? Can prices and season dates only be changed by a developer? Does it predate your own online booking? We say so in the SEO check. If the website has no foundation, we build a new one, compact or custom, and we skip the audit. An audit that only confirms that a website is old would be 1,900 euros for a diagnosis you already know.

Frequently asked questions from tourism businesses

Where do the figures on how guests search come from?
From the Tourismus Monitor Austria survey by the Austrian National Tourist Office, published by the WKO in “Tourismus und Freizeitwirtschaft in Zahlen”, 62nd edition, May 2026. Page 14 of the WKO publication shows how and where guests looked for their accommodation, separately for summer 2025 and winter 2024/25. Summer: search engine 36 percent, internet travel portal or booking platform 35 percent. Winter: 37 and 30 percent. Multiple answers are possible, so the values do not add up to 100. What the figure does not show: where the booking was made, and how large the sample was; the publication states neither. We do not state other figures on booking behaviour because we have no primary source for them.

When should a business start on visibility for the season?
In our experience at least six weeks before the first booking window; season pages go online while nobody is searching yet. New or changed pages first have to be found, read and added to the index, and in our observation AI systems read them with a delay. A page that goes online on the first day of the season competes in the first weeks with pages that have long been indexed. The six weeks are our rule of thumb from projects, not a figure from Google.
How do you measure whether AI assistants mention my hotel?
With a fixed list of test questions that we put to three AI systems on recorded dates and document word for word. No score. What exactly we record is set out on the measurement method page. It names four measures, each with a date and a sample size, plus the ways you can check our figures yourself. What you can do without us is the citability check: 17 requirements, free of charge, in a minute.
Do I need a new website, or is it enough to optimise the existing one?
The SEO check tells you. If the website has no mobile layout or cannot be changed without a developer, we recommend a rebuild, not an audit. An audit is worthwhile when the website has a foundation. A compact website starts at 2,900 euros net, a custom one at 4,500 euros net. Both are built to the technical criteria of WCAG 2.2 from the start and work without third-party scripts. We tell you which form fits after the SEO check.
Should I cancel the booking platform once the website is well visible?
No. The platform remains one channel among several; the website makes sure guests have the choice. We advise against all-or-nothing decisions. What makes sense is to watch the share of direct bookings in the report. Prices and offers on your own website should be so clear that a guest has no reason to go back to the platform for the booking. What your contract with the platform allows is a legal question we do not answer. What we do answer: whether your website is clear enough that a guest has no reason to go back.
Does my website need anything special for AI assistants to mention it?
No. Google requires neither a separate file nor special markup for its AI features; the same fundamentals apply as for Search. Google’s documentation on AI features states that no new machine-readable files, AI text files or markup are needed, and that there is no special structured data for them either. What Google recommends are the same fundamentals as for Search: technically reachable, reliable content, linked to one another, with a good page experience. Google also states that indexing and serving are not guaranteed. For a hotel that means, in practice: rooms, prices, childcare and how to get there belong on the page as text.

What does support cost in the off-season?
Up to three months a year at half price, so 475 euros net per month at 950 euros. You set the months in advance. In the off-season people search and book less; measurement continues, implementation largely pauses. So we halve the price for up to three months that you set in advance. After six months the support can be cancelled monthly; the same rule applies to all businesses and is set out on the pricing page.
