What began with hand-baked bread became a signature
FINK Brot is an owner-run agency for web design, SEO and custom software in Vienna. The name goes back to the Fink craft bakery in Vienna's 13th district, out of which the company grew: a family story that starts with bread in the 19th century and continues today in the browser bar.
A bakery in Hietzing
FINK Brot began in Vienna's 13th district: a traditional craft bakery, family-run, since the 19th century. We cannot tell you the exact founding year – the family accounts contradict one another, and we would rather claim nothing we cannot prove. What is certain: for generations, bread was baked here, sold here and talked about with the people in the neighbourhood. In 1979 the business became a limited company – the commercial foundation everything still rests on. Fresh baked goods, honest craft, direct contact with customers: these three things shaped the firm long before anyone thought about websites.
When the machines were older than the customers
In 2005 the next generation joined – with experience from the advertising industry and a sober look at the figures. The markets had changed, and at some point the ovens were older than the customers. So in 2012 the business was rethought: the bakehouse became the Dampferhütte, a specialist shop for e-cigarettes. Yes, really – we tell you this chapter too, because it is part of the story. Branches in Graz, Linz, St. Pölten and Salzburg followed. And because advertising for e-cigarettes was banned, the online shop grew on search engine optimisation and consistent brand management alone. Anyone who learned SEO under an advertising ban has worked without excuses ever since. By 2014 the bakery's debts were fully repaid; in 2018 came the orderly handover to the long-standing franchise partner – and the way was clear to refocus on digital strategies.
Today: web design, SEO and custom software
Today FINK Brot is a digital agency: we build websites that are thought through technically, editorially and visually, we do search engine optimisation with substance, and we develop our own software – including for our own projects, where we test our methods on ourselves before we recommend them to you. We came through the Covid years without state aid and without new debt: with tight cost control and a focus on the essentials. The company today is lean, financially sound and independent. For you that means working with people who know commercial decisions not from textbooks but from their own balance sheet.
