Google Rich Results Test
The Rich Results Test is Google's official, free testing tool for structured data. It analyses a URL or a pasted code snippet in JSON-LD, microdata or RDFa, shows the rich result types it detects, lists errors and warnings, and provides a preview of how the page might appear in Google Search.
In practice
The tool is available at search.google.com/test/rich-results and is part of the Search Console tools; for URL tests, Google crawls the page just as the regular Googlebot does. Important in practice: an error-free test result does not guarantee an actual rich result, it only confirms that the markup is technically valid and eligible. The Rich Results Test also only checks data types that Google currently supports for rich results – for discontinued types such as ClaimReview, or FAQPage from May 2026, detection in the tool no longer applies, even though the markup itself may still be syntactically valid. For a pure syntax check independent of Google, the Schema Markup Validator from schema.org is a useful complement.
