Discussion Forum & QAPage Schema Markup
DiscussionForumPosting, SocialMediaPosting and QAPage are structured data types for forum and community content that Google uses for the "Discussions and Forums" rich result. Required are an author with a name, a publication date and at least text, an image or a video per post; QAPage is the special case for pages whose structure consists primarily of questions with answers. The digitalSourceType property adds provenance labelling for posts, for example TrainedAlgorithmicMediaDigitalSource for LLM-generated content. Where the property is absent, the markup simply makes no statement about provenance.
In practice
Operators of forums, support communities and comment sections should implement DiscussionForumPosting or QAPage consistently on all thread and reply pages in order to appear in the Discussions and Forums feature. Anyone publishing automatically generated forum replies or chatbot posts should set digitalSourceType correctly – markup that misrepresents the content can cost the page its rich result eligibility. Unlike the existing FAQPage entry, this markup is not suited to static, editorially maintained question-and-answer lists; it is for dynamically growing, community-generated discussions with several authors. For Austrian and German SMEs with customer communities or review forums, implementation is particularly worthwhile in combination with moderation processes, because Google also sets spam and quality guidelines for this markup. Before go-live, validate the markup in the Rich Results Test and watch the Search Console reports for warnings.
