ProfilePage Schema
ProfilePage is a structured data type supported by Google for the profile pages of people or organisations, such as author, team or community profiles. Its core is the mandatory mainEntity property, which points to a Person or Organization entity; creation date, description, profile image, social media links (sameAs) and interaction statistics can be added. Unlike the generic Person entry, ProfilePage describes not the entity itself but the page on which it presents itself; Google uses the markup to attribute posts to the creators behind them in an online community and draws on it for the 'Discussions and Forums' feature, among others. The markup is unsuitable for plain shop home pages or review pages without a genuine profile character.
In practice
ProfilePage markup is worthwhile for author bylines, editorial and team pages and expert profiles, because it supports E-E-A-T signals and helps Google attribute authorship clearly to a page. Smaller company websites should use it primarily on About us and staff pages and on blogs with clear author profiles, combined with sameAs references to LinkedIn, Xing or relevant industry profiles. Important: mainEntity must be set, otherwise there is no rich result eligibility. Test every implementation with the Google Rich Results Test before rollout, since Google adjusts the requirements continually. Editorial teams with many authors are best served by a template solution that keeps dateModified up to date automatically.
