Community Guidelines (Netiquette)

Community guidelines are publicly accessible rules a company sets for communication on its own social media channels. They describe which behaviour is welcome, which posts will be deleted and in which cases individuals will be excluded from interaction.

In practice

Guidelines earn their keep when things turn unpleasant: if you have published in advance that insults and false claims will be removed, you can point to that in a dispute instead of appearing arbitrary. Keep the text short, specific and in plain language, and publish it on your own website, where you control the version and its change history. Link to it from the profile description. Note that arbitrarily deleting factual criticism damages your standing more than the comment itself; whether and when deletions are restricted beyond that has not been settled conclusively in Austria. Remove unlawful content consistently, but distinguish it from opinions that are uncomfortable yet permissible.
