Meta Description

The meta description is an HTML meta tag that provides a brief summary of a web page’s content. It typically appears beneath the title in search engine results (SERPs) and significantly impacts the click-through rate (CTR), even though it is not a direct ranking factor.

An effective meta description is concise, compelling, and includes relevant keywords that match the user’s search intent. The ideal length is 140–160 characters to ensure full visibility—especially on mobile devices.

Example:

<meta name="description" content="Professional SEO strategies for higher visibility – FINK Brot is your agency for sustainable online marketing." />

A strong meta description:

  • supports the page content,
  • encourages clicks through persuasive language or calls to action (CTAs),
  • highlights unique value propositions,
  • avoids generic or duplicate descriptions.

Note: Google may override the meta description by pulling relevant content from the page if it deems the custom snippet insufficient. Nevertheless, every page should have a unique and relevant meta description.
