Service Area Business (SAB)

A service area business (SAB) is a profile type in Google Business Profile for companies that travel to their customers, such as plumbers or mobile service providers, rather than receiving them at a fixed address. If you do not receive customers at your business address, Google asks you to remove that address from the profile and to give a service area instead.

In practice

A radius can no longer be entered: Google accepts towns, postcodes or regions only, and at most 20 service areas per profile – so the selection should be limited deliberately to the places you actually serve. Google says nothing about whether the size of the service area affects rankings; a realistic boundary is still worth drawing, because enquiries from places you do not serve cost time. The areas on file should be reviewed regularly, for instance when places are added or dropped.
