Computer vision is the branch of artificial intelligence that enables computers to interpret and understand visual information from images or video – recognising objects, faces or text within an image, for example.
In practice
Computer vision is what powers image recognition in Google Search, automatic alt text suggestions in some content management systems and content moderation systems. For website owners it is worth knowing that well-described, technically clean images are also easier for such systems to recognise and classify correctly.
