AI Agent (Agentic AI)
An AI agent is a system built on a language model that plans multi-step tasks on its own, uses external tools such as search, code execution or APIs, and works towards a goal with as little human intervention as possible, rather than simply answering a single request.
In practice
AI agents suit the automation of recurring workflows such as research, data queries or drafting text. Because individual errors can accumulate across several steps, results should still be checked by people before they are used in production. Clearly bounded, low-risk tasks with defined limits make a sensible starting point.
