Micro-Conversions
Micro-conversions are smaller intermediate steps on the way to the actual goal action (the macro-conversion), such as adding a product to the basket, subscribing to a newsletter or scrolling to the end of a page. They give meaningful signals about user quality early in the funnel, even when no purchase or enquiry has happened yet.
In practice
In practice micro-conversions are recorded in GA4 as separate events and are sometimes additionally flagged as key events when they matter for campaign optimisation. They are particularly useful on websites with long decision processes or little purchase traffic, where macro-conversion figures alone would be statistically too small to optimise against. The risk is mistaking a micro-conversion for the actual business goal, especially when advertising budgets are steered by it automatically.
