CDN (Content Delivery Network)
A CDN (Content Delivery Network) is a globally distributed network of servers that delivers the static content of a website – images, CSS, JavaScript – from a location near the visitor and so shortens load times compared with a single central server.
In practice
A CDN is particularly valuable for websites with an international or geographically widespread audience. For a purely local, regionally limited website it matters less, but it can still help noticeably, for instance during load peaks or as protection against server outages.
