Category Page SEO

Category page SEO optimises the higher-level listing pages of an online shop, where several products are shown together, for generic search terms with high search volume such as “women’s running shoes” or “bean-to-cup coffee machines”. Unlike product pages, category pages usually address queries ranging from informational to transactional at the start of the customer journey.

In practice

Successful category pages combine a short, distinctive introductory text with useful filters, clean internal linking to subcategories and logical pagination. A common mistake in practice is plain filler text below the product list with no real value – buying guidance, size charts or FAQ sections are more helpful, and they answer questions for AI search at the same time. Because category pages are closely tied to faceted navigation, it should be settled in parallel which filter combinations are meant to be indexable and which are not.
