Business directories that carry accurate company details
A directory listing is useful when it is correct, complete and relevant to your line of work. We organise existing profiles, compare names, addresses, phone numbers and opening hours, and maintain only platforms that serve a clear purpose for your business.
What business directories are actually for
People should encounter the same current information wherever they look. If Google shows a new phone number, Herold still has the old one and the website uses a third address format, that creates unnecessary uncertainty. The same applies to search systems that combine information from several sources.
We therefore start with an agreed company data sheet, not the longest possible platform list. It records the legal and commonly used name, address, main phone number, website, opening hours and services actually offered. This sheet becomes the reference for later changes.
How we separate useful listings from mere presence
Not every platform suits every business. Four straightforward checks prevent directory collecting without a purpose.
-
1
Check established Austrian sources
WKO Firmen A–Z and Herold are sensible starting points for many Austrian businesses. Existing listings are claimed and corrected before a duplicate is created.
-
2
Select by sector and audience
A B2B directory may suit an industrial supplier and be irrelevant to a local café. What matters is whether people genuinely use it to find this type of provider.
-
3
Plan ongoing maintenance
A profile forgotten after a move, phone-number change or updated opening hours becomes a source of errors. We record access, responsibility and the update process.

4
Resolve duplicates and old listings
Two incomplete profiles are harder to understand than one complete record. Where a platform permits it, old entries are merged, corrected or clearly marked as closed.
If you already have dozens of profiles left over from earlier campaigns, you first get an inventory: which entries exist, who has access to them and where the details differ. A profile that nobody inside the company can log into is not an asset, it is an open building site. Only then do we decide what gets corrected, merged or closed. How platforms handle multiple entries is explained in the glossary entry on duplicate business listings.
A simple example: one address in three versions
Imagine a company registered as “Example Works GmbH” at “Hauptstraße 12, Staircase 2, Door 4, 1130 Vienna”. One listing says only “Example Works”, another omits the staircase and door, while a third still displays the previous street number. Each version may look plausible on its own, yet together they do not provide a clear record.
The answer is careful data work rather than keyword stuffing. We agree one format, verify it against reliable public records and update the website, business profile and relevant directories. Search terms and service descriptions belong in their designated fields, not as additions to the business name.
Questions about business directories
Which directories does an Austrian business need?
Must company names and addresses match character for character?
Should an old listing be deleted or updated?
What belongs in a useful directory profile?
One limit of this work is worth knowing: we can correct details that a platform allows to be corrected. Some directories take their data from third-party stocks or refresh it only at long intervals. There a change takes effect with a delay, and in individual cases an old version stays put. We say in advance which platform we cannot steer ourselves, rather than promising a blanket result. Directory entries are also only one part of local visibility; the technical side and the content of your own website belong to search engine optimisation.
